The course aims to enable Nursing Assistants to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to safely care for patients.
The course allows the students the opportunity to practice nursing skills in a safe and friendly environment. The Nursing Assistants are formatively assessed using practice scenarious at the end of the course - the purpose of this assessment is to give feedback and to enable the Nursing Assistant to feel confident in their practice.
The course includes:
- Responsibilities of the Nursing Assistant
- Communication in Care Settings
- Infection Prevention & Control including MRSA Swabbing
- Clinical Observations including observation of and recording a patients Temperature, Pulse, Respiration, Blood Pressure, Oxygen Saturation, Peak Flow & Patient At Risk Scores (PARs)
- Assisting the Patient with Eating & Drinking
- Assisting the Patient with Toileting & Elimination including Urinalysis
- Assisting the Patient with Comfort & Hygiene
- Complications of Immobility & Bed Rest including applying Thrombo-embolism Deterrent Stockings (TEDs)
- Care of the Dying Patient & Last Offices
- Caring for the Patient in Pain
- Formative Assessment - Observed Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for Feedback
